Implementing an effective Anticorruption strategy: a key for maintaining National Security in Tunisia

With the opening of a new front of instability in Libya after 2011 uprising, the emanation of criminality has increased and authorized human and arm traffickers, drug smugglers and terrorists to reinforce their capabilities and their connections. The political instability in Libya besides of Tunisia has stimulated the opportunity for terrorist groups to install themselves in the border regions to abort the reform process and strike down state institutions.
As a result, a number ofterrorist attacks took place into the heart of its neighboring countries like in Tunisia, Algeria, Niger, etc. Economic hardship has increased with the appearance of a parallel commercial system. Libyan arm trafficking even made the way to Syria and the Gaza Strip. In this regard, the United Nations declared that weapons are spreading from Libya at an “alarming rate”. In fact, the breakdown of authority gave both organized criminals and corrupt officers the ability to conduct their operations without risk of significant interference. The purpose of this research is to shed light on the huge impact of some security forces corruption on democratization and point out the need to reform the Tunisian security apparatus by reinforcing laws governing the sector along with the need for internal and external cooperation.
